The school has an intake of 163 students in year 12 and 13 and funding has restricted the number of options available, whilst aiming to provide a balanced curriculum and meeting the demands of the students. Over 70 percent of the students join us from local 11-16 schools and schools further afield for their sixth form provision.
Sexey’s School offers a range of 19 subjects post 16, along with GCSE English and maths re-sits. All subjects are offered at AS and A level, with the exception of BTec sports and exercise science.
Students studying AS and A levels have 9 hours of contact time, per fortnight, with the exception of further maths that has 4 hours (students are expected to complete the course with independent study). The double award BTec is taught in 13 hours per fortnight. GCSE maths re- sit lessons are timetabled for two hours per fortnight with additional 1:1 support.
The decision has been made that most students will start four AS levels and are entered for AS exams at the end of year 12, the external assessment is used to help identify their strengths and weaknesses. They will continue with three full A levels in the second year. Students have the opportunity to also study the EPQ in year 13.
Formal internal assessment takes place half termly and this information is used along with a review of their performance in their external exams (at AS level) and ongoing class tests to predict grades for UCAS.
