Boarding Action Plan Update

A lot of work has been done to make the school compliant with the new Ofsted framework for inspection, which was introduced in April 2017.

All boarders for whom we have particular welfare concerns have now been risk assessed and a Care Plan produced. At Sexey’s we have always supported children well and this was recognised by Ofsted, but we now have a clear record of the support that is being provided, held centrally. The parents of children for whom there is a Care Plan in place will be invited to contribute and agree this plan in the near future.

All student records and incident records are now stored centrally so that they can be checked and any safeguarding concerns passed on to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Phil Clackson. All Safeguarding paperwork and records have been checked with help from a representative of the Somerset Safeguarding of Children Board.

Improvements have been made in the recording and storage of medication and checks put in place to ensure that those students who self-medicate are doing so safely.

All Boarding Staff have now completed the Anti-Bullying Alliance training on Countering Bullying and this is being presented to the school staff on 8th May. The ABA, in partnership with the Department for Education, has just released a new approach to helping students identify and report bullying that will be a major focus in the coming months.

There are many other small changes which have been made but I hope that the major initiatives listed above will allow the boarding staff to further support all boarders and ensure that Sexey’s is a safe environment in which students can achieve their academic potential, develop in character and enjoy their education.

If you would like any further details on any of this, please don't hesitate to ask.

Philip Todd
Director of Boarding
